TITLE: Dinosaurs

OBJECTIVE: Using the technology available to students and teachers in the

Patchogue -Medford School District, Students Will Be Able To
 

· Recognize, repeat, locate and apply vocabulary introduced in The Discovery Works Science Program

· Access information from Internet Site sent to students by teacher.

· Record information on sheets provided by teacher

· Apply information gathered at audio station to unit on dinosaur research

· Graph information on sizes of the dinosaurs

· Interpret data and read a graph

· Compare and contrast the sizes of the dinosaurs

Procedure:
 

1. Group children in teams of four to six students for center work
 

2. Organize students according to assignments

3. Students will understand the assignments and proceed through the areas of the room according to the time allotted in each center.
 

4. Students will work cooperatively in teams of two at each computer, answering the questions on the Treasure Hunt Sheet.
 

5. With two students per computer, students will access the Internet to read for information
 

6. Students will enter the Internet through the Internet book on the School Vista bookshelf
 

7. Students will click on the left hand box, the Read mail box
 

8. Students will click on READ at the bottom of the screen
 

9. Students will click on the paper clip in the upper right hand corner of the screen to access sites
 

10. Students will cooperatively answer questions generated by teacher (suggestions follow on Pg. 4.)
 

11. Students will independently work on assignments in Science Packet created by teacher
 

12. Students will listen to audio and list three facts learned about the dinosaurs
 

13. Students will create a graph from information on worksheet
 

14. Students will analyze the information on the graph and answer the questions at the end of the sheet
 

15. Students will read three books on dinosaurs and select one new fact from each book
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Evaluation

Students will complete all assignments in an orderly time period

Students will manage and interpret all information gathered on dinosaurs so they are able to restate this information to others

Students will report to classmates on the most interesting facts found on the Internet

Students will collect and assemble all information in an orderly manner to be handed in to teacher for evaluation.
