| Welcome
Back all Students! Seniors should begin to become actively involved in the college application process and complete applications by December if possible to enhance their chances of acceptance. Be sure to visit the College Applications Form page to request mailing of your transcripts. All students and parents are
encouraged to check The Filing
Cabinet which contains archives of selected articles of note
on a variety of Counseling Department topics. Students who are preparing for Regents
Examinations have many opportunities for online assistance.
The following links are excellent resources for all students: 9/10 - Attention Parents: Join the Counseling Department at 6:15 pm on Tuesday, September 23 (just before "Back To School Night" begins), for grade-level, general information sessions with the counselors. Freshman (grade 9) parents will meet in the Auditorium, Sophomore (grade 10) parents will meet in Room 121, Junior (grade 11) parents will meet in the Band Room, and Senior parents will meet in the Chorus Room. 9/11 - Attention Seniors: As you secure teacher recommendations to submit with your college applications, you may consider completing a Recommendation Information Sheet. By completing this document and giving it to the person from whom you've requested a recommendation, you are providing additional information to consider as he or she writes a recommendation for you. Personalized recommendations capture the interest of college admissions counselors and increase your chances of favorable results in the process. 9/11 - The Patchogue-Medford Library
offers the following assistance to students: 9/17 - The September Edition of College Connections is now available. 9/17 - The Western Suffolk Counselor's Association has announced the Suffolk Fall College Fair. This year the Fair will be held at the Brookhaven Gymnasium on the campus of Suffolk County Community College in Selden. The date is Thursday, October 16, from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. A list of colleges attending may be found at www.wsuffolkcounselors.org. 9/23 - The Counseling Department will sponsor Graduation and College Planning Assemblies for all senior students during physical education classes on October 6th and 7th. Seniors will have the opportunity to be reminded of graduation requirements so that they can be sure that they are on course to a timely graduation. Last minute reminders about SAT testing and the college application process will also be reviewed. Parents are encouraged to be sure that their seniors are in attendance on these days and reminded to focus their attention on the topics covered. Seniors are also encouraged to make appointments with their counselors should they need any additional information or assistance in formulating post high school plans. Parents and students may also be interested in reviewing the College Planning Link on our website. 9/26 - The September 26th Edition of College Connections is now available.
